Leckenby Complete design and project management service

Philip Mould

We were appointed by Philip Mould to Project management and carry out the architectural design of his new Portrait Gallery at 18-19 Pall Mall in October 2014.

The existing building on Pall Mall, was originally only accessible as part of the main building with no private entrance or access between floors. The ground floor, lower ground floor and basement floors were all accessible from a communal staircase and entrance.

We designed and formed new gallery shop front and private entrance and all structural openings between all 3 floors to allow the gallery to standalone from the rest of the landlords building above.
Designing the new staircase to provide a main spine to the gallery with structural glass balustrades, creating an translucent atrium giving sight between and linking all 3 floors of this 800m2 gallery space

We worked with Edward Bulmer on the interior design, which features traditional fabric covered walls, using the same colour pigments as the original artworks on display, to enhance the masterpieces, a large travertine feature wall cutting through all 3 floors, remote control lighting and timber floors.

There are 3 main gallery spaces plus a research library, intimate viewing room, board room and a miniatures room.

Delivered on time and on budget.
